Ford’s Hot-Selling Fiesta to Make 2010 SEMA Debut, Putting Small Car Style and Performance on the Map

October 29, 2010

People love to modify small cars, so it’s no surprise that consumers and aftermarket companies are eager to get their hands on Ford’s hot-selling Fiesta, set to debut at this year’s SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show in Las Vegas Nov. 2-5.

“The Fiesta is one of those vehicles that resonates with everybody – especially with the younger market. Whatever you’re into, it works,” said Melvin Betancourt, Ford specialty design manager. “It lends itself to a lot of different themes. It’s a perfect fit for the aftermarket and for customers who want to express their personality.”

“SEMA offers the perfect opportunity to showcase all the different ways the personalities of the Fiesta can be expressed,” said Sam De La Garza, Fiesta brand manager.

“It really shows how Fiesta can be accessorized and how this canvas can be altered to meet many different customer wants and desires,” De La Garza said. “SEMA represents a special opportunity, because we can show off unique designs that other companies have created. It’s not just Ford coming to the table. It’s other companies interpreting what Fiesta is, and bringing their own style to the Fiesta launch.”

Customization is something already familiar to Fiesta owners. Ford Custom Accessories offers almost anything an owner would need to put a creative touch on Fiesta or give the car even more functionality. Accessory options include exterior or interior design items such as an illuminated gear indicator shift knob and rear spoiler, even a kayak carrier to haul outdoor gear. Customers also can order a body-side tattoo, or choose from one of 18 available graphics to put their own mark on Fiesta.

“Small cars are unique in that people love to modify them, whether it’s the exterior, interior, or even performance parts,” De La Garza said.

Ford Racing Performance Parts is putting its own spin on a Fiesta at SEMA, outfitting a concept Fiesta in a way that is sure to get the hearts of high-performance enthusiasts pumping. The Fiesta will have a production-based 2.0-liter EcoBoost™ engine, enlarged to 2.3 liters to pump out 350 horsepower.

“The goal of our 350-horsepower Fiesta is really twofold – first to reinforce Fiesta’s fun-to-drive nature with an extreme version that captures the attention of the influential enthusiast, and second, to introduce the Ford Racing/EcoBoost connection in a way that’s unexpected and outrageous,” said Mickey Matus, Ford Racing Performance group marketing manager. “In both cases, we’re targeting the discriminating performance enthusiast with our message. After all, they are the people others rely on for automotive expertise and recommendations.”
The car comes equipped with several Ford Racing Performance Parts options that are currently available at www.fordracingparts.com. A short-throw shifter offers more precise shifting, while a Ford Racing exhaust gives off a deeper, throatier exhaust note. Also available are 17-inch wheels that are cast-aluminum and painted in charcoal gray.

Additionally, the car features Brembo brakes that offer the ultimate in stopping power, and Ohlins dual-flow valve dampers that deliver comfort and agility.

Ford Racing’s Fiesta will arrive in all-blue, pristine condition, and will be painted by a renowned artist during the show with the intention of auctioning the car in the future to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF).

Fuller Ford’s “Stand Up Against Breast Cancer” Raises Nearly $26,000

October 25, 2010

On October 16, 2010, Fuller Ford held “Stand Up Against Breast Cancer” to help raise money for Chicks and Chucks, a local organization dedicated to providing assistance to breast cancer patients in financial need of products and services that aid in their battle.

The evening featured a silent auction, live auction, split the pot, and the grand prize of a new car or $10,000 cash. Joyce Lynch was the lucky winner of the grand prize and opted for $10,000 cash. Joyce is a cancer survivor herself and just so happened to be the very first person to buy a ticket to the event.

In the end, “Stand Up Against Breast Cancer” raised nearly $26,000 for Chicks and Chucks. Fuller Ford thanks everyone who made this event an enormous success…volunteers, donors, attendees, and especially Fuller Ford’s own Chuck Bryant. Chuck worked side-by-side with Chicks and Chucks’ founder, Cathy Halloran, to ensure a very successful and memorable evening for all who attended.

Fuller Ford will donate $100 to Chicks and Chucks for every purchase of a new vehicle by anyone who attended “Stand Up Against Breast Cancer” between now and 12/31/10. Fiesta Facebook Challenge Lets Fans Push Envelope of Fun, Brings Back Fiesta Movement Agents

October 21, 2010

Fans of the Ford Fiesta are being asked to get their creative juices flowing again, thanks to the Ford Fiesta Facebook Challenge where Fiesta Facebook fans participate in monthly challenges inspired by missions done by Fiesta Movement agents.

“We’re extending the challenges we gave to our Fiesta Movement agents to our Facebook fans, so it’s a perfect way to let Fiesta Movement followers get in on the fun,” said Sam De La Garza, Fiesta brand manager. “Each challenge perfectly aligns with the fun nature of Fiesta, and we’re hoping the fans come out to show what they can create.”

The challenge kicks off this week with Zombie Survival Guide, which asks users to “zombify” themselves and create a picture that pushes the envelope of creativity. An introductory video by former Fiesta Movement agents for each challenge helps give the user a better idea of what the challenge requires. Check out the inspirational video for Zombie Survival Guide here: http://tinyurl.com/zombieshatefiesta.

Other challenges include:

  • Wear Craig’s Beard for a Day, which asks users to edit a picture of themselves to include former Fiesta Movement agent Craig’s beard and tell people what their favorite feature on the Fiesta is. Check out the inspirational video here: http://tinyurl.com/craigexclusivefeatures
  • Match Brittini’s Donation, which has fans match former Fiesta Movement agent Brittini’s donation to their favorite charity and take a video or picture of it to share. Check out the inspirational video here: http://tinyurl.com/brittanibears
  • Fifteenth Feature, which, in a take on Craig’s personalized list of 14 “exclusive” Fiesta features, asks users to shoot a photo of their idea for a 15th subjective feature. Check out the inspirational video here: http://tinyurl.com/craigexclusives

“We’re letting people engage in Facebook Challenge similar to how they could interact with Fiesta Movement agents and their missions, but this time they get to create the content,” said Brian McClary, Ford social and emerging media specialist. “This challenge will let us keep the organic nature of the program rolling and give users who want to share content an avenue to do so.”

Once challenges are complete, Facebook users will vote on the best content and a winner will be awarded a prize each month. When the challenge ends in January, the overall winner will win an Apple iPad, with a leader board on the Fiesta Facebook fan page updating users on the standings.

2011 Ford Super Duty Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Tutorial

October 14, 2010

DEF FAST FACTS

Injection of DEF to reduce NOx is a proven technology used throughout the auto industry. Unlike other manufacturers’ solutions, the DEF system allows the diesel engine to run at its optimum range in terms of fuel mixture – some systems require the engine to run richer, which can be harmful to diesel engines, to control the NOx.

  • DEF is a solution of approximately one-third high-purity urea and two-thirds demineralized water that is clear, nontoxic and safe to handle.
  • DEF tank, supply module and supply line are heated to help ensure DEF remains in a liquid state, preventing it from freezing while in operation or thawing from a frozen state.
  • DEF is injected into the exhaust system, to greatly reduce NOx levels.
  • The DEF tank includes temperature and fluid level sensors, and when the level reaches an approximate 800 mile distance-to-empty level, an instrument cluster warning alerts the driver.
  • On Pickups, the DEF tank and fill nozzle are located together with the diesel fuel tank and fill nozzle on the driver’s side of the vehicle and require refilling at oil-change intervals.

Watch this short tutorial on how to properly fill your DEF tank and when to fill it according to the message center in the instrument cluster:
