MSN Ranks 2011 Ford Fiesta Number One Car Under $15,000

May 31, 2010

The 2011 Ford Fiesta hasn’t even hit the streets and it is already getting accolades!  This week MSN ranked Ford’s new Fiesta as their number one choice of vehicles under $15,000, beating out the Honda Fit and Nissan Versa among others. MSN calls the Fiesta “Bold on Style, and Big on Driving Dynamics”.

According to the editorial on,” Its 1.6-liter Ti-VCT-equipped Duratec engine combines peppy performance on the road and a miserly personality at the pump. Its 30 mpg city/40 mpg highway figures are topped on this list only by the 3-cylinder smart. Inside, the cabin has the aura of a more upscale and more expensive class of car. The SE model ($14,320) includes an AM/FM/CD stereo with MP3/WMA playback capability and auxiliary input jack; and power windows and door locks.”

The much anticipated 2011 Ford Fiesta is scheduled to arrive in showrooms this summer. With its cool design, zippy performance and impressive content, Fiesta is not simply the new kid on the block…it will quickly become the most popular in its class! The Ford Fiesta is big on style and on looks. Eye-popping features, like its signature inverted trapezoid lower grille opening, make the 2011 Ford Fiesta stand out from the rest of the crowd. It also boasts of such features as sweeping quad-beam headlamps that frame and connect the hood to muscular, sculpted front fenders. Razor-slash side panels, dramatic tail lamps with honeycomb detailing, and muscular rear quarter panels are just a few of the other bold features that will set the 2011 Ford Fiesta apart from the competition. The new Fiesta will offer 9 different vivid paint colors, such Lime Squeeze, Bright Magenta, and Blue Flame. Two premium paints will also be available: Yellow Blaze Metallic Tri-coat and Red Candy Metallic with Tinted Clearcoat. The Fiesta will be offered in either a 4-door sedan or a 5-door hatchback model. Four trim levels are available: the base S, SE, SEL, and the SES

James Morgan from Ford Motor Company will be coming to Fuller Ford on June 11, 2010 to demonstrate the new 2011 Ford Transit Connect Taxi. If you are interested in seeing it, please contact Steve Hayhow at

Saying the 2011 Ford Transit Connect Taxi (see related article) “fits the bill,” the city of Boston recently became the first municipality in America to approve the versatile cab for taxi use, paving the way for taxi owners to purchase the new vehicle for their fleets.

“We’re very impressed with the Transit Connect,” said Mark Cohen, director, Licensing Division, Boston Police Department. “It’s the closest thing to a purpose-built vehicle for taxi use that I’ve seen in 25 years.”

Boston, the 10th largest metropolitan area in the United States, regulates which types of vehicles can be used as taxicabs in its city streets. To be approved for taxi use, a vehicle must meet basic size requirements for headroom, legroom and cargo space.

“The size, shape and configuration of the Transit Connect make it comfortable for both driver and passengers,” said Cohen. “When the Ford Crown Victoria goes out of production next year the taxi industry here in Boston and throughout the country is going to be looking for alternatives. I think the Transit Connect Taxi fits the bill.”

The roomy, flexible interior of the Transit Connect – 2010 North American Truck of the Year – is perfectly suited for taxi service. Its open architecture provides excellent interior headroom and passenger visibility and, with 6.5 inches of ground clearance, passengers step easily through the sliding doors.

With its standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine and automatic transmission, the conventionally powered Transit Connect is expected to deliver an estimated 30 percent improvement in fuel economy versus many of today’s traditional taxis.

Because taxi operators also asked for a version that runs on alternative fuels, Ford is offering new engine prep packages that allow conversions to both compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied propane gas (LPG).

“The vehicle’s cargo area easily accommodates CNG tanks directly behind the second-row seat, still allowing ample luggage storage,” said Gerald Koss, Ford fleet marketing manager.

Both CNG and LPG lower taxi fleets’ operating costs and are better for the environment. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, CNG is less expensive and burns cleaner than gasoline, resulting in 30 to 40 percent less greenhouse gas emissions. Propane also burns cleaner than gasoline.

Built on a dedicated commercial vehicle platform tested to meet Ford’s light commercial vehicle durability standards, Ford’s new Transit Connect Taxi also features a wiring upfit package, vinyl flooring and standard third-row windows – all of which are factory-installed.

“We really tailored the vehicle to provide comfort and convenience for both driver and passengers,” said Chief Engineer Rob Stevens.

He and Koss spent a good part of 2009 taking the Transit Connect Taxi concept to taxi owners and operators in major markets across the United States, gaining valuable feedback that helped Ford further refine the taxi.

“We moved the rear seat back three inches, added a grab handle for passengers to get in and out of the vehicle, and we installed a ventilation unit to heat and cool the second row,” said Stevens. “We also added vinyl seats, which taxi operators said they wanted because of their durability.”

Technology on the go
Ford – the industry leader in the taxi business for decades with the Crown Victoria and Escape Hybrid – also is collaborating with Creative Mobile Technologies (CMT) to integrate premier payment processing and passenger information technologies in the taxi, including an 8.4-inch electronic infotainment and navigation screen that shows cab fares, news, weather, sports scores and stock ticker. The passenger can select programming, following the taxi’s route on a map and scroll through a list of points of interest.

Ford and CMT also are developing strategies for potential integration of Ford Work Solutions™, a suite of productivity technologies for business owners providing a wireless in-dash computer with full high-speed Internet access and navigation.

“Ford continues to invest in fuel-efficient new engines, deliver more technologies and product features in our vehicles, and listen to what people – including taxi fleet operators – really want,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of The Americas. “Ford is committed to offering new solutions and maintaining our leadership as America’s No. 1 taxi company.”

Fuller Ford anxiously awaits the arrival of the new 2011 Transit Connect Taxi later this year. 2011 Ford Mustang

May 26, 2010

Beneath the muscular lines of the power-dome hood introduced last year, the 2011 Mustang will have an all-new 3.7 liter Ti-VCT (Twin independent Variable Camshaft Timing) V-6 engine and one of two available 6-speed transmissions. While the engine it replaces had a larger volume displacement (4.0 liters), the new one delivers better performance and efficiency: 305 horsepower, 280 foot-pounds of torque and a projected 31 hwy mph – no other vehicle in the industry can beat this combination in a V-6. The Mustang V-6 engine offers enhanced features such as cold-air induction, dual exhaust, and a die-cast aluminum deep sump oil pan for 10,000 mile oil change intervals. Additionally, the V-6 Mustang offers these handling upgrades for 2011: Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS), limited-slip differential, larger brakes (from the 2010 GT), new rear lower control arms, stiffened rear stabilizer bar bushings, enhanced stabilizer bar and spring rates, and retuned struts and shocks.

Mustang drivers looking for more power will appreciate the all-new 5.0 liter Ti-VCT V-8 engine, with a 6-speed transmission and 412 horsepower. It marks the fitting return of the 5.0 badge. And fans of Ford’s top pony get a bonus too, in the form of a new aluminum-block 5.4 liter SC V-8 for the GT500, which delivers a whopping 550 horsepower. All this rides on the foundation of retuned shocks from the 2010 Mustang model, boosting performance across the board. There are new wheel options available on the 2011 Mustang as well.

Inside, the available SYNC infotainment hub highlights the flowing center stack. The V-6 Mustang’s interior also boasts of such features as new cluster graphics (featuring 160 mph speedometer/8000 rpm tachometer), Message Center, integrated spotter mirrors, MyKey owner controls feature, HD Radio (included in Electronics Package), fold-down rear head restraints, and tire mobility kit. There’s no cutting corners here – not that we would presume to tell you how to drive.

Ford Motor Company has invested $320 million in its Sharonville transmission plant over the past three years in its all new six-speed, heavy-duty truck transmission. This new equipment has resulted in the addition of 100 jobs, which brings the plants total employment to roughly 1700. The new 6R140 heavy-duty TorqShift transmission comes standard on the 2011 Ford F-250, F-350, and F-450 trucks which are all assembled at Ford’s Kentucky Truck plant in Louisville. The 6R140 transmission is a third larger than the five-speed version that it replaces. It was designed to handle the 25 percent greater torque of Ford’s new 6.7 liter diesel engine and the higher speeds of its new 6.2 liter V-8 gas engine on Super Duty trucks. The 6R140 transmission will provide more power for hauling and improved fuel efficiency.
The Sharonville plant produces the new 6R140 transmission on the same flexible production line building that the older 5R110 transmission was produced on. Sharonville has already produced nearly 50,000 of the 6R140 transmissions and has the capacity to build approximately 250,000 units per year. The 6R140 transmission is not the only equipment that is produced at the Sharonville plant. Gears and torque converters are also produced at the plant. This equipment is used on every other Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicle that Ford builds, including the new C-class cars built in China.

The all new 2011 Super Duty trucks are now here at Fuller Ford. Come see the new 6R140 transmission up close and in person. As always, Fuller Ford offers Lifetime Free Oil Changes on ALL new vehicle purchases – in stock or factory ordered. This includes the entire Super Duty line-up! According to the research firm Automotive Lease Guide, Ford Motor Company’s car resale values rose an average of $2420. This is not only the most of any automaker, but it is also nearly four times the industrywide increase. Additionally, Automotive Lease Guide found that Ford Motor Company experienced the largest gain at 5 percent in “perceived quality”, which measures such values and consumer views of reliability. Ford’s resale gain for the first half of 2010 crushes the industry average of $616 from a year earlier.

“The perception is starting to catch up with reality,” Ford’s global marketing chief, Jim Farley, told reporters. “Resale value is the ultimate proof point.” Ford Motor Company has gained much of this sales and market share thanks to new and redesigned models such as the Fusion sedan. After three years, the Fusion’s resale value sits $1600 higher than that of the Toyota Camry. The research found that Ford’s ability to avoid a government bailout while General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC reorganized in bankruptcy with federal aid “was very important in consumers’ minds.”

Farley states that improvements in perceived quality take a long time to establish. He goes on to say that this will be accomplished by reviving Ford Motor Company’s entire product line-up consistently over five years-plus. Ford is already well on their way in accomplishing this goal. Ford Motor Company’s huge gains can be attributed to the fact that it avoided a government bailout by borrowing $23 billlion in late 2006, just before the credit markets froze. Ford used this money to rebuild the quality and offerings of the Ford brand. Ford’s U.S. sales skyrocketed 33 percent this year through the month April, which is nearly twice the industry’s 17 percent gain.

Ford Focus C Max

May 17, 2010

Ford Motor Company has confirmed that the new 7-seat C-MAX, which was introduced at the Sept. 15, 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, will arrive in North America beginning late 2011.

In North America, the “whitespace” vehicle will be one of up to 10 unique models the company will create from an all-new global C-car platform developed under its One Ford strategy.

The all-new, next-generation Ford Focus sedan and five-door hatchback models are scheduled to launch late in calendar year 2010 in the United States.

With the market introduction of the 7-seat C-MAX in late 2011, Ford will offer customers in North America three distinct models in the important compact segment, which is expected to show continued growth in the coming years.

According to Ford analysts, small cars in the B- and C-segments accounted for less than 15 percent of the U.S. market in 2004. In year-to-date sales through August 2009 however, the small car segment has reached nearly 22 percent of total industry sales – and further gains are expected.

“Consumers are seeking uncompromised vehicles offering value for the money, and C-MAX squarely hits those targets,” said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Ford Global Product Development. “The Focus C-MAX will be great to look at, great to sit in and great to drive, bringing Ford DNA to a new market segment in the form of an aspirational, fuel-efficient people carrier.”

Exterior design elevates segment
The new Ford Focus C-MAX demonstrates that compact, 7-seat vehicles can be stylish and desirable while still delivering outstanding space and functionality.

“The C-MAX brings more emotive, dynamic design to the segment, along with a great driving experience,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of The Americas. “People will gravitate toward C-MAX for the way it looks and drives, and not just because it’s practical and versatile – and that’s going to help us reach a whole new group of customers.”

Bold exterior and interior designs have been created using the latest evolution of Ford’s “kinetic design” form language, building on the themes established in recent product introductions like the hugely successful European-developed Fiesta, Kuga and Mondeo ranges.

Kinetic design elements applied to the new C-MAX include the dynamic, rising beltline, full sculpted surfaces, bold wheel lips, strong athletic shoulders supported by a prominent undercut line and the distinctive kick-up of the window graphic at the C-pillar.

The front end design also features Ford’s signature trapezoidal lower grille – with a special “piano black” finish on the Frankfurt Show vehicle.

Offering seating for up to seven, the C-MAX destined for North America features a high roofline and thin pillars to emphasize the generous room and visibility in the cabin. Twin sliding doors are neatly integrated, with the rail concealed by the undercut line on the shoulder of the vehicle.

Stylish, modern interior
The new C-MAX interior mirrors the dynamic and modern character of the exterior, complete with muscular, expressive shapes and bold graphics.

Key design features include the taut, wing-like form of the upper instrument panel (IP), which reaches out to the sides of the interior. A dramatic sweeping form connects the IP with the center console.

The cockpit provides a commanding, raised driving position with high-mounted shifter and center console inspired by the acclaimed layout in the new Fiesta. Carefully designed storage areas are located throughout the cabin, including generous door pockets, a large glove box and additional compartments and cup holders in the center console.

Ingenious 7-seat layout
To maximize the versatility of the 7-seat layout, Ford engineers developed a new seat-folding mechanism for the three second-row seats. This mechanism allows the center seat to fold quickly and easily under one of the two outboard seats, creating a handy walk-through space between them.

This walk-through space allows passengers to access the third row without having to disturb the two outer seats, which is particularly helpful when those positions are occupied by child safety seats. Owners have the option of using the convenient 2+2+2 seating layout or switching to a full 7-seater when required.

The second- and third-row seats also have been cleverly engineered so they can be folded to create a flat load floor, regardless of how many seats remain in use. All of the folding mechanisms are designed so they operate with just one hand.

New generation of global Ford C-segment cars
The C-MAX is the first of a new generation of global C-segment cars scheduled for introduction by Ford over the next several years. This series of new models will include the launch globally of the next-generation Ford Focus beginning late 2010.

The new C-car family is the result of an unprecedented global development program and is loaded with an array of advanced vehicle technologies that will enhance safety, convenience, comfort and driver satisfaction. Up to 10 models and more than 2 million vehicles per year based on this platform will be sold by Ford around the world when the entire launch is complete.

“By concentrating resources and making big commitments to the small car segments in North America, Ford is proving it’s doing business differently,” Fields said. “Following the launch of the Fiesta and the next-generation Focus in 2010, and the launch of the BEV Focus and a 7-seat model in 2011, Ford will offer customers at least six small cars, and they’re going to be truly exciting designs packed with the latest vehicle technologies.”

Fuller Ford looks forward to the arrival of the all new 2012 Ford Focus C-MAX late next year. As always, Fuller Ford offers Lifetime Free Oil Changes on ALL new vehicle purchases – in stock or factory ordered. Fuller Ford is the Cincinnati Tri-State Region’s leader for the hottest, cutting-edge, most fuel efficient vehicles available.
